Home About

My photographic journey began around 15 years ago. I was an English teacher enjoying a long summer holiday and upon awaking one morning I decided to address the photographic urge that had been niggling away at me for some time. Later that same day I found myself on the North Yorkshire Moors unboxing a brand new camera (I had no real idea what I had just purchased!)) and took my first photograph with a ‘proper’ camera: that moment defined what has since become a wonderfully exciting and rewarding career as a photographer.

Alongside wedding photography I have been commissioned by a number of businesses from both the UK and overseas to produce their marketing images. Travelling, meeting new people and enjoying the challenge of using my photographic skills to promote their businesses in sometimes challenging photographic conditions is always a highly rewarding experience. Commissioned work includes: The American Graduate School of Business; Ballet Riviera, Switzerland; Classic Motor Magazine; Finborough School; Montreux School of Business; Russell Actors Company; SAAB Owners Club; Sandele Eco Retreat, The Gambia; St. Georges School in Switzerland; The Young Actors Company and Westminster Academy.

My approach to the photographic medium has evolved strongly over the years: I think that many a photographer can relate at some point in their journey to the largely misguided belief that the latest equipment will somehow instantaneously make one a better photographer and that every image must be post-processed in increasingly dramatic ways to achieve maximum impact on the viewer: I no longer carry the vast amount of equipment that I used to, but find a minimalist approach so much more satisfying on so many levels. I exclusively use full-frame cameras and prime lenses, loving the wonderful rendering of my favoured 35mm f/1.4, 85mm f1.4 and 135mm f2 lenses. There is very little that I can’t beautifully capture with this selection, though I also use specialist ultra wide and macro lenses for more critical work. As my approach to photography has changed, so too has my style: I work methodically but discreetly, keenly observing the interplay of natural and artificial light, reveling in the challenge of getting the in-camera image ‘just right’ so as to minimize time consuming and expensive post-processing work.

Whilst I could gladly talk at length about photography and how I document the world around me, please take a few moments to look through the images on this site: I shall let my photographs speak for themselves.
